Sponsored by Falls Outdoor Company and the Keel-Haulers Canoe Club, we are very proud to announce Open Kayak Sessions at the Natatorium in Cuyahoga Falls!

 

Equipment and Logistics:

All in coming kayaks must be very clean, please remove all airbags or anything else that may hold debris when cleaning the boat. We reserve the right to turn a dirty kayak away. We will enter via the maintenance area. (more details coming soon)

The club has some equipment and can help outfit anyone who needs gear, but you must ask, use the note option when registering.

 

Need Help?

The Keel-Haulers club has a roll instructor that will work with students on learning the kayak roll. With this service you must request in the notes during registration, and we will work to get him there to work with you personally. If you take advantage of this service, we request that you are or become an active paid club member.

 

Price:

This pool is limited to 10 Kayak’s in the pool at once. This pool’s cost will be $12 per person. Family is welcome to come watch for free if they are not getting in the pool.

Need help?

Are you interested in learning basic kayaking skill come practice with us at Akron University’s Olympic sized swimming pool. The club will have a presence every week and will be more then happy to work with any paddler who request help.

The Keel-haulers club has a roll instructor that will work with students on learning the kayak roll if you are interested. With this service you must email us at clevelandkeelhaulers@gmail.com and we will work to get him there to work with you personally if you take advantage of this service we request that you are or become an active paid club member.

Equipment and Logistics:

  • Boats, PFDs (life jackets) and paddles are provided as needed.

  • Personal kayaks are permitted so long as they are clean and free of debris. Boats may be transported through the side entrance of the ONAT pool (door #14). Please note that these doors may not be propped open under any circumstance.

  • Participants may arrive up to 15 minutes early to transport kayaks to the pool deck and use the pool locker rooms.

  • Boats are not permitted on the water before 8pm.

  • All participants must be out of the ONAT facility by 10pm. This means planning ahead to exit the water as early as necessary to ensure you are out of the building on time, including kayak transport and locker room use.

Registration:

Pay $10 in person or $8 online, or pay for a semester for $80

Passes can be purchased online for single sessions or an entire semester. Typically there are 15 sessions per semester. Single use passes are only valid for the next upcoming Open Kayaking session. In addition to payment, a completed waiver must be on file for the current semester in order to participate.

Upon arrival every participant must sign in with our staff and receive a wrist band to wear for the duration of the session. Staff are available in the leisure pool area and ONAT pool deck for sign-in..

Details: New kayakers can come learn kayaking skills. Participants may bring their own boats via the loading dock stairs and back entrance as long as the boats are FULLY CLEANED before entering the pool. If you don't own a boat, one can be provided for you to use. Contact Kennedy at actrips@kent.edu with any questions. Pre-registration IS REQUIRED by the Wednesday before each program. Difficulty: Level 1. No experience necessary, mild physical exertion.

Equipment

No equipment needed for the first lesson.  We provide it all.

Your equipment must be clean when you decide to bring it.

No requirement for specific gear like helmets or PFD's.  We recommend you practice in the same gear in which you will paddle.  Chlorine is hard on neoprene.  Wash it when you get home.

 

Logistics

Bill Cacciolfi, George Davis, and Gwen English are teaching rolling to up to 7 new students each week at Countryside YMCA, in Lebanon, OH.

 

We guarantee you will roll a kayak in this class or we will refund the $65 fee.

 7 more can sign up for practice.

 New students pay $75 cash only

for the first session only. You learn using our equipment. After that, each session is $10, to cover the YMCA fee.

 

You must contact Gwen English to register.  Her contact information is at the bottom of this event notice.

We will need your email address, to send class details, and let you know about schedule changes.  You will be added to our email list.

We also need a good contact phone number, so the YMCA is able to contact you about any post attendance medical issues as needed.

once registered, you will be sent an email from one of us, giving you class details, including how to enter the complex. This facility is the largest YMCA in the U.S.

Getting to the right place is important with 5 pools.

 

We guarantee you will be rolling in the first lesson.  All subsequent sessions for tune ups are free, except for the $10 pool fee that goes to the YMCA to pay the life guards.  Come out now, and be ready for the spring!

 

The Lebanon pool will be available for kayak roll practice. Upon arrival, please pay Kathy Peterson the fee of $10 before putting your clean boat in the pool no earlier than 2:30 pm. Please bring exact change. The pool deck must be cleared by 5:45 pm. 

 

You cannot just show up.  The YMCA wants a head count prior to the event.

Open paddle in our pool is the perfect place to try or practice stand up paddleboarding and/or kayaking! CSU students join for free! All equipment is included. Our certified paddling instructors will be there to help you hone your paddling skills, learn some new ones, or just have some fun on the water!
