Megan Thompson was a vibrant and passionate member of the whitewater community, known for her adventurous spirit and dedication to the sport. Tragically, at the age of 34, Megan lost her life while kayaking on the Oconaluftee River in North Carolina on February 24, 2022.

Beyond her prowess on the water, Megan was celebrated for her enthusiasm in connecting fellow paddlers with quality gear. She frequently facilitated the buying and selling of used whitewater equipment, fostering a sense of community and accessibility within the sport.

In honor of Megan's memory and her contributions to the paddling community, Slip Fest hosts the annual Megan Thompson Gear Swap. This event encourages attendees to bring outdoor gear to trade, sell, or give away, reflecting Megan's generous spirit and commitment to supporting fellow adventurers.

Megan's legacy endures through the camaraderie she inspired and the lives she touched, both on and off the river.
